morning!!! sooo, the melons have finally arrived!! and they’re looking quite dapper.
they are growing out of control though – i’m talking into the broccoli plant, hanging over the rock. they sure know how to cramp a plants style. but, i can’t wait to taste these little fellas. it definitely took them a long time to sprout up, but now they’re growing at such a fast rate. this gardening season has been awesome.
we also have a little cucumber sprouting. sad that he’s solo, but we’re hoping for a few more soon. i mean, everyone needs a friend.
we’ve also been working on our compost and it’s finally complete!
we took a barrel the boy got off craigslist for $20 and then the boy cut out the door and hinged it on (with a cute handle!). then i drilled the aeration holes. i’m starting to like drills. and wood. and building things!
the boy and his friend built the base a few weeks ago using wood pallets and a few wheels so that we can turn and circulate the compost to mix everything all up.
after that, the boy added all our compost goods that we had saved up (a ton!) and some dry products (we used shrubs from the bushes he trimmed) and then wet it down. the process was repeated a few times and voila! a compost! it’s set to be fully composted by the time we have to plant our fall plants, about 2-3 months. suuuper excited!
what do you put in your compost? any special tricks?
have a great thursday!
p.s. jimmy johns subs is having a special today for $1 subs between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. i hear they have an amazing veggie one and i’m excited to try it!
